This national facility is currently under construction and so is this page. The measurement container is currently finished and will be stationed for a time in Bremen on the NF Bremen to compare measurements of the two ACTRIS instruments.
The final place for this facility is not yet fix. The current planning aim at the city of Fortaleza, Brazil (3°S, 38°W). The rationale behind this choice is the ability to measure the difference between the Southern and Northern hemisphere Troposhere. This is because the chemical equator, the boundary separating the troposphere is migrating with the sun (Sun, 2023). The figure below shows the migration of the chemical equator (area between the red and the blue line) with the season.
The chemical equator Sun et.al. 2023, the boundary between northern and southern troposhere sweeps over this region in March and October/November, The chemical equator is roughly parallel to the ITCZ (innertropical conervence zone.
The ACTRIS certification has not yet started.
The 5-year-averaged (2015–2019) seasonal location of the CE: (a) December, January and February; (b) March, April and May; (c) June, July and August; and (d) September, October and November. The 1σ of the CE-NH and CE-SH of each season is shown in shaded color (copied from Sun et.al. 2023)
